1967 Toyota 2000 GT (07)

The Toyota 2000GT was a sports car produced in very limited numbers by Toyota in Japan. First seen at the Tokyo Motor Show of 1965, production vehicles were built between 1967 and 1970. It revolutionized the automotive world’s view of Japan, formerly seen as a producer of imitative and stodgily practical vehicles, and showed that the Japanese makers could produce a sports car to rival those of Europe.

Reviewing a pre-production car in 1967, Road & Track magazine summed up the 2000GT as "one of the most exciting and enjoyable cars we’ve driven", and compared it favorably to the Porsche 911. Today, the car is seen as the first seriously collectible Japanese car, the first "Japanese Supercar", and examples change hands for fairly high prices.

Das Modell wurde 1965 auf der Tokyo Motor Show präsentiert. Die Produktionszeit lag zwischen 1967 und 1970. Mit dem 2000 GT avancierte Toyota trotz der Ähnlichkeit zum Jaguar E von einem westliche Marken imitierenden zu einem eigenständigen Hersteller von wettbewerbsfähigen Automobilen. Das Modell wird von heutigen Automobilsammlern zu sehr hohen Preisen gehandelt, da nur 351 Einheiten des Fahrzeugs produziert wurden.

Frazer Nash was a British sports car manufacturer and engineering company founded by Archibald Frazer-Nash in 1922. Frazer Nash should not be confused with the unrelated companies Kaiser-Frazer and Nash Motors.

The company was founded in 1922 by Archibald Frazer-Nash who had, with Henry Ronald Godfrey founded and run the GN Cyclecar Company. The company was established in Kingston upon Thames, Surrey, moving to Isleworth, Middlesex in 1929. The company entered receivership in 1927 and re-emerged as AFN Limited. The majority of AFN was acquired by H. J. ("Aldy") Aldington in 1932 and run by the three Aldington brothers, H.J., Donald A. and William H. Aldy’s son, John Taylor ("JT") Aldington was the last of the family owners/directors until AFN Ltd was sold to Porsche GB. The company produced around 400 cars until the mid-1930s, notably a series of famous chain drive models.

AFN, Ltd became importers and assemblers of BMW cars in 1934 and sold them as Frazer Nash-BMW. They were the official British BMW importer until the outbreak of war in 1939.

1968 – 1973 Opel GT (07)

The Opel GT is a two-seat sports car first presented as a styling exercise in 1965 at the Paris and Frankfurt motor shows, and introduced as a production model late in 1968 by Opel, a German subsidiary of General Motors. It relied partly on components from the contemporary Opel Kadett B and had a body made by French contractor Brissonneau & Lotz.

Its styling has been likened to the 1968 Chevrolet Corvette which went on sale in September 1968.

Although the life of the GT was limited to six model years, after a 34-year hiatus it returned as a 2007 model based on the Saturn Sky, and was built alongside it in Wilmington, Delaware, USA. The plant was scheduled to close in July 2009, ending production of the GT, and its siblings.

Die Entwicklung des Opel GT begann im Winter 1963 mit der Fertigung von Designstudien aus Plastilin. Der Wagen sollte vorrangig als Image-Träger des General Motors (GM)-Konzerns dienen. Auf der IAA 1965 wurde dann ein Prototyp unter der Bezeichnung "Opel GT Experimental" gezeigt. Die mögliche Einführung eines "Gran Turismo"-Sportwagens unter der Marke Opel wurde damals mit ebenso viel Erstaunen wie Begeisterung aufgenommen. Ein Sportwagen passte eigentlich nicht zum ansonsten überaus biederen Markenimage des Rüsselsheimer Autobauers. Über die tatsächliche Realisierung hielt sich Opel allerdings lange bedeckt.

Charakteristisch war für das Modell die so genannte "Coke-Bottle-Shape", womit auf das schmale Mittelteil des Wagens angespielt wurde, und die Klappscheinwerfer, welche über einen Hebel im Innenraum entlang der Längsachse aus der Haube gedreht wurden. Diese bezeichnete man bald als "Schlafaugen" – in dieser Bauart von Opel patentiert.

Up to 70 curvy cars built from 1920 (a Brescia) to 2010 (a Veyron) started from Monterey, CA on 16 August 2010. Two Veyrons in the rally were reported to be the world’s most expensive cars worth .7 million each, and the world’s fastest with speeds of 268 mph. Tech note: I forgot to put lens image stabilizer into panning mode 2 – always double check camera and lens settings before a shoot. In general, for the shots in this set, I set a slow shutter speed (1/30 – 1/60) to induce motion blur into the background and wheels, but maintained a moderate depth of field (f/5.6 – f/9.0 – f/16) by using nominal ISOs (typ, 400 or less). A circular polarizer was adjusted to lose a stop, to more easily attain the desired slow shutter speed. I used low burst rate mode, AI Servo continuous tracking focus, and I set one focus point to be left and top of center to try to focus on the driver’s eye while still allowing for leading space in front of the vehicle. Mostly I was at the wide end (70mm) of the 70-200mm lens. I was sitting on the sidewalk for a low angle composition.

1967 MG MGB Roadster Mark II US Version (02)

The MGB is a sports car launched by MG Cars in May 1962 to replace the MGA. Introduced as a four-cylinder roadster, a coupé with 2+2 seating was added in 1965. The six-cylinder MGC debuted in 1967; a later derivative fitted with the Buick-based Rover V8 was made from 1973 to 1976.

MGB/MGC production continued until October 1980 variously by the British Motor Corporation and its successors, British Motor Holdings and British Leyland Motor Corporation.

The roadster was the first of the MGB range to be produced. The body was a pure two-seater but a small rear seat was a rare option at one point. By making better use of space the MGB was able to offer more passenger and luggage accommodation than the earlier MGA while being 3 inches (75 mm) shorter overall. The suspension was also softer, giving a smoother ride, and the larger engine gave a slightly higher top speed. The four-speed gearbox was an uprated version of the one used in the MGA with an optional (electrically activated) overdrive transmission. Wheel diameter dropped from 15 to 14 inches (360 mm).

Der MGB war ein Sportwagen, den die MG-Division von BMC im Mai 1962 als Nachfolger des MGA herausbrachte. Die Nachfolger von BMC stellten den Wagen bis 1980 her.

Der Roadster war das erste MGB-Modell. Es war ein reiner Zweisitzer, aber es konnte ein kleiner, einzelner Rücksitz auf Wunsch bestellt werden, was allerdings selten geschah. Durch bessere Raumausnutzung bot der MGB mehr Platz für Mitfahrer und Gepäck als sein Vorgänger MGA, obwohl er um 76 mm kürzer war. Das Fahrwerk war weicher als beim MGA, was größeren Fahrkomfort ermöglichte, und der größere Motor sorgte für eine etwas größere Höchstgeschwindigkeit. Der Felgendurchmesser fiel von 15“ auf 14“.

1961 – 1972 Volvo P1800 (09)

The Volvo P1800 is a sports car from Volvo Cars. The car was presented to the public for the first time at the Brussels Motor Show in January 1960 and Volvo turned to Jensen Motors whose production lines were under capacity, and they agreed to a contract of 10,000 cars.

As time progressed, Jensen had problems with quality control, so the contract was ended early at 6,000 cars. In 1963 production was moved to Volvo’s Lundby Plant in Gothenburg and the car’s name was changed to 1800S (the ‘S’ indicating Swedish assembly).

Der Volvo P1800 ist ein PKW-Modell des schwedischen Automobilherstellers Volvo und stellt nach dem P1900 Volvos zweiten Versuch dar, in den Sportwagenmarkt einzusteigen.

In der Zeit von 1961 bis 1972 wurden von dem Coupé 39.407 Exemplare in verschiedenen Motorisierungen gebaut.

Das Design wurde 1957 von Pelle Petterson entworfen, damals Mitarbeiter bei Pietro Frua in Italien. Das erste Modell P1800 wurde von 1961 bis 1963 in Großbritannien bei Jensen Motors in West Bromwich montiert. Die Karosserien wurden vom Werk Linwood der Pressed Steel Company per Bahn angeliefert. Ausgestattet war diese Version mit einem 1,8-Liter-Vergasermotor mit 66 kW (90 PS).

Aufgrund von Qualitätsproblemen bei Montage und Lackierung beendete Volvo die Zusammenarbeit mit Jensen 1963 und verlegte die Produktion nach Schweden in das Volvo-Stammwerk Lundby bei Göteborg. Der Modellbezeichnung 1800 wurde ein S für Schweden hinzugefügt. Im gleichen Zug wurde die Leistung auf 71 kW (96 PS) gesteigert.

1959 Austin Healey 3000 MKI (05)

Austin-Healey was a British sports car make. The marque was established through a joint-venture arrangement, set up in 1952 between Leonard Lord of the Austin division of the British Motor Corporation (BMC) and the Donald Healey Motor Company, a renowned automotive engineering and design firm.

Austin-Healey cars were produced until 1972 when the 20-year agreement between Healey and Austin came to an end. Donald Healey left the company in 1968 when British Motor Holdings (BMC had merged with Jaguar Cars in 1966 to form BMH) was merged into British Leyland. Healey joined Jensen Motors who had been making bodies for the "big Healeys" since their inception in 1952, and became their chairman in 1972.

Nach dem 2. Weltkrieg, 1945, gründet Healey die Donald Healey Motor Company. Nach verschiedenen Entwicklungsarbeiten (Nash Healey etc.) und Siegen bei kleineren Rennen ist der Healey 100 der Star einer britischen Automobilmesse im Londoner Earls Court. Dieses Fahrzeug wird von Donald Healey sowohl leistungs- (100 Meilen pro Stunde) als auch preislich zwischen den schon älteren MG T und den moderneren Jaguar XK platziert und auf den boomenden amerikanischen Roadstermarkt ausgerichtet. BMC-Präsident Leonard Lord (1896–1967) wird auf Healeys neues Modell aufmerksam; Lord und Healey vereinbaren am Vorabend der Publikumspräsentation des Healey 100 (1952) eine Zusammenarbeit unter dem Dach von BMC. Die ersten 20 Austin-Healey werden in Warwick gebaut. 1957 wird die Produktion nach Abingdon verlegt. Die Serienproduktion wird 1967 wegen verschärfter Sicherheits- und Abgasnormen in den USA eingestellt; die Produktion wird aber bis 1972 weitergeführt.

Donald Healey hatte die Firma 1968, als BMC (British Motor Corporation) von British Leyland übernommen wurde, bereits verlassen.
